Everton have already sold academy graduate Ellis Simms to Coventry City in a bid to raise funds for the transfer operations. Another Everton academy product, Tom Cannon, is attracting interest from Championship side Preston North End.

Everton’s strike force will undergo some monumental changes this summer as Sean Dyche eyes two striker signings. Simms has already left the club as he was not a guaranteed starter and arrival of two new strikers would have further reduced his playing time. Neal Maupay could also face a similar predicament. The Frenchman has not been able to assert himself in the first season and his position remains in doubt.

Cannon’s future also needs to be evaluated after he returned from an impressive loan spell. Cannon spent the second half of the last season on loan at Preston North End. In 21 appearances, the young Irishman netted eight goals and provided a solitary assist. He caught the eye of many at Preston and the Championship club have been keen on the 20 year old.

Preston North End make Everton striker Tom Cannon as their top transfer target

Preston North End have met Everton twice to discuss another possible loan but there are other clubs too that remain interested in taking Cannon. Sunderland, Blackburn Rovers and Luton Town are potential suitors for the Irishman.

According to Lancs Live, Preston North End have made Cannon their number one target in this summer transfer window. PNE have already signed four players but Everton striker Cannon remains their top priority.

The 20 year old has clicked well with fans of Preston and his performances have been well appreciated by the club and the fans. Cannon is currently working with Everton in the pre-season, where Dyche is carefully evaluating him. Cannon took part in Everton’s pre-season friendly against Stade Nyonnais but did not find the net. Although, the Irishman did have a couple of chances.

Cannon was brought off at half time and then reintroduced in the 72nd minute as Everton went onto win 2-1 in Switzerland. The 20 year old is expected to continue his pre-season and sooner or later a decision will be made over his future. If EFC manage to sign a competent striker, there are chances that Cannon will leave on loan as the Toffees will have adequate squad depth in the striker department. Till then, Preston North End will have to wait patiently for Everton’s decision on Cannon.
