Everton finally seem to be making progress in signing players as Wilfried Gnonto could now be close to join the Toffees. The Italian has been one of the top transfer targets for EFC this summer and several contrasting reports have emerged regarding his transfer.

The Toffees want to add a winger to their attack and Gnonto has been linked for weeks now. Demarai Gray is attracting interest from Premier League sides and Saudi Arabia. With just one year left on his contract, the Toffees could cash in on the Jamaican. This would leave Sean Dyche with just Dwight McNeil and Alex Iwobi as wide options, leaving no backup options.

The possible arrival of Gnonto would definitely boost EFC’s options out wide. The Italian was expected to leave Leeds United after their relegation to the Championship. About a month ago, EFC were linked with the Leeds United trio of Jack Harrison, Crysencio Summerville and Gnonto.

Wilfried Gnonto to Everton close as agent lands in London to complete deal

After this, constant reports have been flooding in about Everton’s interest in the Italian winger. In the background, EFC continued to push for the 19 year old. Last week, a ground breaking report claimed that Everton’s offer had been accepted by Leeds United but Aston Villa remained keen on the winger too. Quashing those rumours, another update came through which suggested that EFC’s £15 million bid was rejected.

A couple of days ago, the report mentioned that Gnonto had been offered a five year deal which would see him earn £8.6 million over the course of five seasons and Everton were ready to pay up to £20.1 million including add-ons.

Sport Italia today claims that Gnonto’s agent, Claudio Vigorelli, is in London to close Gnonto’s transfer to Everton. If this report is to be believed, EFC have managed to get their man amid competition from Aston Villa and other Premier League sides. The Italian could be Everton’s third arrival after Ashley Young and Arnaut Danjuma. Danjuma’s deal is also close to completion.

The 19 year old showed a glimpse of his blistering pace and talent last year in the Premier League. Two goals and four assists do not strike as eye catching stats but Gnonto has shown that he has ability and needs some polishing. He’s just 19 and has plenty of time to develop his game and turn into a strong asset for Everton.
