Everton have been searching for a striker all summer and have been dealt with numerous blows in the chase of a striker with the latest blow coming in the form of failure to sign El Bilal Toure. Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho remains a target for Sean Dyche as the Toffees explore alternatives to Bilal Toure.
EFC have failed in striker pursuits one after the other as the likes of Viktor Gyokres, Victor Boniface and Bilal Toure have not joined Everton despite interest. The Merseysiders had been working on the Bilal Toure deal for weeks with EFC in advanced talks but the Malian was also in simultaneous talks with Atalanta.
The Toffees need to sign a striker this summer to provide goalscoring support to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has returned to training in pre-season. Everton have been linked with a host of names after failing to sign Bilal Toure. Salernitana striker Boulaye Dia remains one of the most linked players, followed by Leicester City’s Iheanacho and Swansea City striker Joel Piroe.
Everton hold mild interest in Kelechi Iheanacho
According to BBC Sport, Everton hold mild interest in Nigerian striker Iheanacho. However, the Toffees have not made any official approach for the 26 year old yet. Iheanacho has been at Leicester since 2017 and is now in the final year of his contract. With his deal expiring in 2024, a number of sides have shown interest in the Nigerian.
Iheanacho made 35 appearances for the Foxes in the 2022-23 season and ended up scoring eight goals and provided five assists. AS Roma, Besiktas and Galatasaray have been keen on the 26 year old Leicester striker whereas from England, Burnley and Nottingham Forest are competing with Everton for Iheanacho.
As things stand, the Merseysiders are not considering Iheanacho as a priority signing and have only mild interest, indicating that perhaps Salernitana’s Dia is their priority striker target now. Everton have been in talks with the Serie A outfit for the Senegalese striker and have already made one bid of €16 million but the offer was rejected. Everton have come back with another bid this time offering Neal Maupay as a part of the deal as the Serie A side remains keen on the French striker.
Iheanacho is a decent bet as he has plenty of Premier League experience and he has excelled when a he has a front man around him, like Jamie Vardy at Leicester. Dia could operate solely as a No.9 and it seems that Everton want to sign the Senegalese.
