It has been a busy day on the transfer front with Everton reportedly closing in on signing Sporting CP forward Youssef Chermiti and still keen on adding at least one other too.

According to Football Insider, the Toffees are very much interested in bringing in Che Adams from Southampton, a player the club have been previously linked with, along with so many of course!

Everton appear to be making concrete moves to solve their goalscoring problems with the unexpected potential signing of 19-year-old Chermiti.

This story has come out of left-field with no one previously having speculated that this striker was on the Blues radar. That must be a first!

Chermiti is however obviously very young and inexperienced and it’s hard to see him coming straight into the first-team and scoring goals in the Premier League. I would love to be proved wrong in that but it does seem unlikely.

So, it would surely mean that the Toffees have to bring in at least one more centre-forward who has the experience and nous to hopefully start scoring goals straight away.

Could Adams be that man?

His stats would suggest not, as the former Sheffield United forward only scored five goals in twenty-three top flight appearances last season while the Saints were of course ultimately relegated.

Adams at his best is a powerful centre-forward and offers a threat in the air and from set-pieces. Those attributes would suit a Sean Dyche side.

Other names are also still being mentioned regularly including Boulaye Dia of Salaternita and Kelechi Iheanacho from another relegated side Leicester City.

Whether any of these names will become Everton players we can only wait and see. But, if the club do seal a deal for Chermiti they will need an older head to help him settle in and find his feet in the World’s best league.
