As the new Premier League season looms Everton are still searching for much-needed reinforcements and yet another forward has emerged as an alledged target.

This transfer window has gone as most of us expected and as recent windows have, with the club linked to an ever-growing and endless array of players, especially forwards, only for very little concrete outcome.

Everton have only signed the experienced and versatile 38-year-old Ashley Young and Villarreal forward Arnaut Danjuma on loan for a season. And, typically for this club Danjuma is now injured.

There are just four days to go before the start of another Premier League campaign and the Toffees are still woefully short of numbers and quality again, most particularly up front.

As we all wait for the final details of another signing, that of Youssef Chermiti, to be all sorted out and the deal to be done, more names continue to be linked with the Blues.

The latest is Patson Daka of Leicester City who is apparently back on Everton’s radar with so many other targets having gone elsewhere.

Daka of course is now a Championship player following the Foxes relegation at the end of last season. You would imagine he would prefer to continue playing his football in the top flight if he can.

The Zambian international was an expensive signing when Leciester brought him to English football from Austrian side Salzburg.

Daka was certainly highly-rated and started well enough at the Kingpower Stadium, but last season he managed only four goals in seventeen appearances, not a hugely impressive total to be honest.

So, another tenious transfer link is made and off we go again on the endless treadmill of hugely speculative rumour.

Regardless of whether this one has any legs to it, time is running out for the Toffees to get at least one or two more desperately needed players in before the campaign kicks off again.

However, very few Evertonians will be expecting anything significant to happen in time for the Fulham game on Saturday afternoon, given this club’s recent record and reputation.

In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if we’re all still waiting for 19-year-old Sporting striker Chermiti to be unveiled by the time the season begins this weekend, despite stories earlier this week that he was about to sign on the dotted line.

It goes on and on in the same way, with the Blues essentially chasing shadows while other clubs strengthen in time for a new season that once again looks to be an almost certain struggle against the odds for Everton.
