Everton swap deal worth £80 million with PL club a possibility
Everton and Manchester United could end up doing business this summer as the Toffees have shown interest in Harry Maguire whereas the Red Devils are looking to strengthen their midfield by signing Amadou Onana.
Everton have seen a couple of departures/exits in the defence as Yerry Mina left as a free agent and Conor Coady departed after his loan deal expired and EFC chose not to sign him permanently. The Toffees could further see Mason Holgate leaving as he has been told that he is free to find a new club and has generated interest from Southampton, Leeds United and Sheffield United.
EFC have been linked with Maguire, who could leave MUFC this summer. Earlier reports have suggested that Everton are keen to bring Maguire on a temporary basis, signing him on a season long loan deal. Maguire has had rocky campaign last season with United and isn’t a regular starter at under Erik ten Hag.
Everton and Manchester United could consider Harry Maguire-Amadou Onana swap deal
United are open to offloading Maguire and several Premier League clubs have taken notice. West Ham United view Maguire as an attainable target and have made an offer of around £30 million for the English defender. EFC are weighing up on a move for Maguire that would see the 30 year old reunite with his best pal Jordan Pickford.
According to Mirror, Everton and Manchester United could explore a swap deal that would see Onana join the Red Devils and Maguire link up at Goodison Park. MUFC have been admirers of Onana and have considered his name internally to reinforce the midfield.
Manchester United view Sofyan Amrabat as a top target but in the event of a failure to sign the Moroccan, Onana is one of the best alternatives for Ten Hag’s side. Interest in Onana is not new as several top Premier League clubs have been named as suitors for the Belgian midfielder.
After approaches from Chelsea and Arsenal in January 2023, CFC returned in the summer and continue to keep tabs on the 21 year old midfielder. Onana has been an integral part of the midfield under Dyche and the former Burnley boss would like to continue having the powerful Belgian at his disposal. However, the 21 year old is valued at £50 million and could fetch a huge sum that could be reinvested in upgrading the squad.
If Manchester United and Everton agree on a swap deal, EFC must ask for Maguire plus cash for Onana. Maguire’s arrival wouldn’t exactly inspire a wave of fans given his recent performances but he could provide a necessary backup and a towering presence like Mina.
