Fresh report claims Everton are in talks for another Portuguese striker Beto
As we count down to the start of a brand new Premier League season this afternoon, Everton still need more forward talent with Beto once again a target.
That is according to the latest report from Football Insider who are saying the Blues are now locked in talks with Udinese over a loan-to-buy deal for their striker Beto.
Everton have signed just two new forwards in this summer window having brought in Arnaut Danjuma on loan, while just yesterday Sporting’s Youssef Chermiti penned a four-year permanent deal.
If this latest story is true, the Toffees are trying to add another Portuguese player after finally securing Chermiti’s signing.
Beto is a tall and powerful forward the Blues have been linked with on several occasions in the past and the claim is Everton are once more seriously interested in him.
This report comes after Leeds United last night seemed to have closed the door for good on any possible move for their young Italian forward Wilfried Gnonto saying publically he is not for sale.
Gnonto has been the subject of intense and constant media speculation with the Toffees boss Sean Dyche alledged to have made him a top priority in this window.
A deal for the 19-year-old Italian might still be an outside possibility. But in truth, with time running out, I think Everton now need to move on to other targets rather than wasting more time pursuing this player.
Udinese striker Beto had a strong campaign last season in Serie A managing ten goals in just over twenty appearances, which is certainly a decent return.
Crucially too, the 25-year-old is a player with an established goalscoring record in a major European league, albeit not the English top flight of course.
That obviously is important, as Chermiti his fellow Portuguese, for all his potential and talent, is still a very inexperienced player and Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s fitness is as always such a huge uncertainty that Dyche simply cannot plan around him.
If this story has any legs to it and the Blues were able to bring Beto in, I think he could prove an excellent addition; a player with proven ability to score goals and plenty of experience at the highest level.
Dyche has also said the club doesn’t need to sell to buy, which is good to hear and could make a difference in their ability to get deals over the line.
With another hectic and severely testing season about to begin and the days ticking by before the transfer window shuts, it is obvious to us all that Everton still need more attacking reinforcements as a matter of urgency.
