Everton manager Sean Dyche has said Everton might well be getting closer to bringing in several new additions as supporters continue to digest yesterday’s dreadful 1-0 defeat by Wolves.

Dyche’s comments come after Saturday’s latest disaster which saw the Blues slip to a third consecutive loss leaving them bottom of the Premier League.

Once again, Everton created chances but couldn’t finish any of them and were mugged late on by the visitors to leave the new season in tatters, only three weeks in.

It is hard to know how the Toffees can turn this around now as they have a mountain to climb if the team is to get up the table to safety.

First of all, Sheffield United simply have to be defeated next weekend. Failure to do so could quite possibly be terminal for the team’s survival in the Premier League.

Will the Blues have any new attacking and most of all, goalscoring support in by then?

You have to say it is an absolute must that before this transfer window shuts, Everton have signed at least one and preferably two further quality and experienced forwards by the time the team takes to the pitch at Brammel Lane.

The manager has been outlining his view on the situation and in his statements he reiterated that plenty of hard work was going on behind the scenes to get deals over the line but that financial constraints make it very tough.

I think Dyche has a valid point, and it is clear that money is very tight given all that has been wasted over the last four or five years on players and the endless succession of failed managers. He is not to blame for that situation and it is one that he has inherited.

But you do also get the feeling that other clubs, even if they also have little to spend, seem to manage to get deals done much more quickly and easily than the Blues.

Looking to the situation from the outside, the chaos and uncertainty surrounding the club’s future with all the patomime-like atmosphere that acompanies it, must also be a major issue and probably a deterrant to players joining.

There is a little bit of positive transfer news this morning as it is rumoured that Portuguese striker Beto is on Merseyside today for a medical ahead of a proposed move to the Toffees.

Let us all hope that this story is indeed true and that Everton are really close to signing the Udinese striker.

He alone won’t solve all of this team’s problems that’s for sure. But, it would certainly be welcome to see at last an experienced centre-forward and proven goalscorer in the squad before the trip to Sheffield United.

Because as we all know, without players such as Beto and I hope several others too, it will be very hard to see how Everton can now secure enough points to stave off relegation.
