Time is running out for Everton to add more needed new players

There are now just over two days left of the summer transfer window and Everton still need at least two or three more players to strengthen their squad.

So far this summer the Toffees have signed Ashley Young on a free, Arnaut Danjuma and Jack Harrison have joined on loan for a season, while Youssef Chermiti and Beto are permanent deals.

Everton though, still ideally need another striker as well as a wide attacker with pace and creativity and at least one more centre-back to strengthen what has been so far this season, a worryingly leaky defence.

That is a tall order given how little time is left in the window and how long it normally takes the Blues to get their transfers done.

And while stories persist about certain players being of continued interest to the club there are also still rumours about the future of several current players.

Several reports claim that Everton are still pursuing Southampton’s Che Adams and Kamaldeen Sulemana as well as others.

At the same time a number of Toffees players are still looking likely to be heading for the exit. among them Demarai Gray and Tom Cannon as well as fringe players such as Andre Gomes and Jean-Philippe Gbamin.

One other name who might now also be leaving Merseyside is Alex Iwobi.

The 2018 signing is in the last year of his current contract and hasn’t as yet been offered a new one, so rumours indicate that several other clubs are considering a late bid for him.

If Everton do let Gray and Iwobi go they will be very short of wide attacking options, especially given that Dwight McNeil is still injured and Harrison won’t be available until after the international break.

These sorts of stories are always doing the rounds as the transfer window draws to a close so we might well take them with a pinch of salt.

But, what does concern me is that the Blues don’t end up with a similar scenario to the last few windows when they have run out of time to get much-needed reinforcements in.
