Reports claim that Everton will make a number of moves in the January transfer window.. but only if the proposed takeover by 777 Partners is given the green light.

Sean Dyche has according to this story drawn up plans for as many as three new signings in the New Year on the assumption that the takeover deal will go through.

Everton brought in several additions in the summer, most notably Beto’s arrival, but most of the player movement was outgoings with the club letting a large number of individuals leave.

In particular, two players who had been integral members of the squad last season; Alex Iwobi and Demarai Gray both departed respectively on and then just after, transfer deadline day.

It has left the Toffees light in overall squad numbers and especially lacking in enough altenative options in the wide attacking positions.

At the moment Dyche only has two on-loan wingers in Arnaut Danjuma and Jack Harrison along with Dwight McNeil who are recognised wide attacking players. And of course, Danjuma and Harrison are only available for the remainder of this season.

So, it would make sense for Everton to try and strengthen in this position if possible when the January window opens in four months time.

The article also says Dyche will be looking for more full-back options as well with Nathan Patterson and Vitalii Mykolenko still not entirely convincing, while both Seamus Coleman and summer addition Ashley Young ageing and far from being long-term alternatives.

But, all this will be dependent on the takeover going through without a hitch, something that seems increasingly unlikely.

Almost every day there are fresh stories alledging further problems and issues with 777 Partners and indeed Everton’s current finances.

Next month comes the report from the independent commission into alledged financial impropriorty which could prove very costly.

The future of the club seems very much up in the air and at the moment no one can be sure what will happen over the coming few months.

All the first team can do is keep trying to win football matches starting with this afternoon’s game at Goodison Park against Luton Town.
