Fresh reports from the Athletic say Premier League rivals Newcastle United could be considering a January transfer window move for Everton star Amadou Onana.
The reason being is that the Magpies have just lost one of their pricipal assets with their Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali now facing a 10-month ban for betting offences.
So, the Everton and Belgium midfield enforcer might well be a potential target when the transfer window opens again in January.
Onana has been in decent form recently now that he is playing in a deeper more defensive role and had a solid game in last Saturday’s Merseyside derby.
This is a change from the often wildly inconsistent performances that we have previously become accustomed to seeing from the powerful former Lille player who despite his obvious talent and physical gifts, had struggled to find his feet in the Premier League.
Being in one position consistently has probably helped and although Onana often plays in a more advanced role, he seems to be suiting this more for his club.
Since last summer Onana has been the subject of numerous rumours and stories about a potential move away from Goodison Park even though the only joined the Blues in summer 2022.
With the club’s future so uncertain admidst a potential points deduction and great uncertainty about whether 777 Partners will be able to secure their proposed takeover, realising one of their playing assets might become necessary.
If the Belgian does leave could Kalvin Philips be a potential replacement for him?
Manchester City and England star Philips has been unable to consistently break into Pep Guardiola’s side and his future does appear to be away from the Etihad Stadium.
Some commentators have been urging the former Leeds United player to consider moving on and Everton could possibly be a potential destination.
Well, we will of course see whether any oif this happens in a couple of months time. For the moment Onana needs to keep performing well starting with tomorrow’s trip to West Ham.
