After weeks of speculation, Dominic Calvert-Lewin has officially confirmed his departure from Everton, bringing an end to a near-decade-long chapter at Goodison Park. The striker took to Instagram to post a heartfelt farewell message to fans, signaling that he would not be renewing his contract, which expires this Tuesday.
In his statement, the 28-year-old expressed his gratitude to Everton supporters and the managers he’s worked with throughout his time at the club. He described the decision to move on as one made after careful consideration with his family, stating that now felt like the right moment to embrace a new challenge.
As a free agent, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is now free to join a new club without the need for a transfer fee, bringing a symbolic close to his Everton journey while opening the door to a fresh chapter in his career. While no club has officially confirmed his signing, speculation has been rife throughout the summer. Manchester United, West Ham United, and even a surprising link to Leeds United have all emerged as potential destinations, reflecting the striker’s enduring reputation despite recent struggles.
Injuries hampered much of Calvert-Lewin’s final years at Goodison Park, casting a shadow over what had once promised to be a prolific Premier League career. His farewell message referenced a desire to "embark on a new challenge", a telling nod to his ambition to move past a frustrating stretch marred by setbacks. Last season was particularly difficult, as the England international scored just three goals in 26 Premier League appearances, having missed more than three months of action between January and May due to injury.
Yet, despite the injury woes, Calvert-Lewin’s contribution to Everton cannot be overlooked. Over the course of nine seasons, he made 273 appearances for the Toffees across all competitions, scoring 71 goals. His form at club level also earned him 11 England caps, during which he found the net four times. Had fitness not been such a persistent obstacle, those numbers could well have been significantly higher with the words of Everton legend potentially sounded out and lining up with Kevin Campbell, Tony Cottee and Duncan Ferguson as the best to grace Goodison in last few decades.
Toffees fans will no doubt wish DCL the very best, bidding him farewell with gratitude and fond memories of his time at the club. A good opportunity to revisit his threebest moments in an Everton shirt.
