Another Everton striker target moving on elsewhere

It looks as though another potential forward target of the Blues might well be going to another club following Liam Delap's decision to join Chelsea earlier in the transfer window.

Brighton's Evan Ferguson has been one of an increasingly long list of centre-forwards who have been linked with a move to Everton this summer.

David Moyes is a fan of the young Irishman, who burst onto the scene with the Seagulls a few seasons ago when he looked like one of the best new striking talents around.

Then, almost inevitably and as so often happens, he declined in his second campaign and failed to hit the same heights as before.

Ferguson joined West Ham United on loan and couldn't integrate himself successfully into the Hammers' side, and failed to score a single goal for the London club.

As last season closed and we moved towards the transfer window, there was plenty of media talk about the Toffees moving for Ferguson.

He was one of a growing number of strikers that Everton have apparently been running the rule over as Moyes contemplates his moves.

Clearly, as we all know, the Blues desperately need further forward options with Beto unconvincing and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who is virtually certain to leave Merseyside at the end of the month.

Everton wanted to bring Delap to the club and were frustrated as the Ipswich Town starlet decided to go to Chelsea instead.

While getting Delap always felt like it would be an uphill battle as the Londoners could offer Champions League football, a move for Ferguson seemed a more realistic target.

Whether he was the right player for the Toffees is an obvious question. Ferguson does clearly have ability and can score goals, but his problems last season could indicate he might not be the right option.

Now, these might well all be moot questions as this story reveals that the Irish forward is on his way to Holland and PSV Eindhoven instead of remaining in the Premier League with Everton or another club linked with him, Nottingham Forest.

If Ferguson does move to the continent, Everton will once more have to move on to other possible targets, such as Rangers' Hamza Igamane.

Once again, this rumour is still just that for now, and we are no nearer to clearly knowing who will finally be joining the Blues by the end of the summer transfer window.
