Everton are in the midst of a crisis when it comes to depth, and although there’s no indication that 24-year-old right back Julian Araujo was on the club’s shortlist as an option at right back, he is nevertheless another player at that position that Everton will not be able to enquire about in the January transfer window.
The Mexican player has struggled for minutes with Bournemouth, and he’s only featured in the EFL Cup so far this season. The Cherries are reportedly sending Araujo on loan to Celtic, joining Wilfred Nancy, a former MLS coach, in Scotland.
Araujo has moved around a lot in his career already. He was a Barcelona academy product who made his pro debut with the LA Galaxy. He then transferred back to Barcelona in 2023, but his move came under scrutiny due to some late paperwork, which led to the courts stepping in and allowing the move to go through.
He never made an appearance in an official game for Barcelona’s first team, but after a successful loan spell at Las Palmas, he moved to Bournemouth in the Premier League, where he made 14 total appearances for the club.
Everton are currently without Seamus Coleman due to injury, and Jake O’Brien has had to step in at the center back position. Nathan Patterson made his season debut against Nottingham Forest, and although he didn’t look bad, it’s obvious that the standard needs to be higher at that position if Everton want to reach a European playoff spot this season.
