Sean Lunt of Sport Witness is reporting that Everton midfielder Charly Alcaraz "wants to stay" on Merseyside and that his agent is doing everything he can, including flying to England this week, to keep Alcaraz in Blue.
Lunt's story comes from a Brazilian outfit -- Matheus Vieira Ramos for BolaVIP -- that indicates that not only does the Argentine not want to return to Flamengo, who loaned him to Everton this January, but the Brazilian club doesn't want him to return. Their manager, Filipe Luis, sees Alcaraz as a surplus to requirements for his squad.
While the original loan included an obligation to buy based on Alcaraz reaching certain markers (it's been noted that appearances were the trigger, but Ramos clearly states that is was an unnamed number of goals), both Lunt and Ramos confirm that the threshold has not been hit.
This means that the player and his agent will need to work with both clubs to work out a deal that is good for both sides. With an original fee reported somewhere in the neighborhood of €15 million, you'd imagine that would have to be the starting point.
And Everton need to ensure that a deal for Alcaraz, a young player (he won't be 23 until late November) who wants to be part of what the club is doing, is worked out.
He hasn't been a fixture in the side, at least in the starting XI, since he joined, but he has featured in 15 matches, starting six, and proving himself quite adept as an attacking midfielder in manager David Moyes' setup.
His four goal contributions (1 goal, 3 assists) are tied for fourth on the squad with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Ashley Young, two players who have been at Everton all season.
He can be a key cog in Everton's move to Hill Dickinson Stadium next season as they look to bolster the squad. At that age, that skill level, and that price, keeping him at Everton is a no-brainer.
