Could Iliman Ndiaye solve Everton's right wing problem?

Everton's star man from last season has played some on the right, most recently for Senegal during a friendly against England.

There's no doubt that bringing Iliman Ndiaye from Marseille last summer was a shrewd bit of business on the part of Everton's then-Director of Football Kevin Thelwell and his recruitment team. The Senegal international was coming off a generally unimpressive season in France and Everton turned him into their attacking talisman last season.

For the most part, both Sean Dyche and David Moyes saw Ndiaye as a left winger, allowing him to use his quickness on the ball to cut inside and fire in shots on his preferred right foot or even make good use of his weaker left foot to drive in crosses.

All the while, both managers were left with Jackson Harrison and Jesper Lindstrom on the right wing, both players with good technical ability but who never turned that into production during their loan spells at Everton.

When Dwight McNeil returned from injury, Moyes kept Ndiaye on the left, with either Aboulaye Doucoure or Charly Alcaraz centrally, and McNeil cutting inside from the right. While it often worked effectively, the Englishman's one-footedness really stood out on that side of the pitch.

Much of the focus of the Everton transfer rumors thus far has been on right sided players, either in attack or in defense, and given the strength of the squad in terms of wingers is on the left, that makes a lot of sense.

But what if Moyes' solution to the right wing problem is already on the roster in the form of Iliman Ndiaye?

During a recent friendly for Senegal against England, Ndiaye lined up as a right winger opposite Crystal Palace's Ismaila Sarr, both flanking Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson in a 3-1 win over the Three Lions.

Some of the performance might have been due to having talent like Sarr and Jackson around him, but the space he was afforded throughout the match and the way he was able to use his elite dribbling skills and get to his favored right foot were quite impressive.

He hasn't played on the right side much during his professional career, but the win over England indicates that Ndiaye is capable of doing it. So Everton shouldn't be worried about bringing in a versatile piece for the attacking front knowing that Iliman Ndiaye is capable of playing all across the line as well.
