This one seemed dead in the water a few weeks ago, with Southampton asking for too much money, while Everton seemingly had a price they wanted to stick to and were unwilling to exceed that number.
In the end, though, cooler heads prevailed and the two sides agreed to a deal that has sent Tyler Dibling to Everton for a reported fee of £35 million, although there are also add-ons that could make the number rise.
And so the 19-year-old winger is now Everton's eighth signing of the summer, creating a trio of young players alongside fellow signings Thierno Barry and Adam Aznou.
Dibling, who will wear number 20 for Everton, will join an attacking front that features Iliman Ndiaye, Jack Grealish, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, with Barry and Beto leading the line. It's a quartet of attackers, between Ndiaye, Grealish, KDH, and now Dibling, who have shown top-notch dribbling skills and the ability to create for others.
It will be imperative that they learn to play together and that the strikers take advantage of the opportunities this group will create in order for Everton to become a top offensive team.
In speaking with the club, Dibling noted that he was "buzzing to sign. I felt the Club already, even before I was in the building, just from social media and from people telling me about the Club. I've never been so excited to play football, and I'm just ready to get going."
The young Englishman was with the Saints last season in the Premier League, and while it was ultimately an unsuccessful campaign, the hope is that year will have provided him with enough experience to step in and contribute right away.
There will be more to come on Dibling's fit in David Moyes' side, but for now, it's exciting to finally see the deal over the line.
