Everton got off to a blazing start to Monday night's match against West Ham and their new manager, Nuno Espirito Santo. The Toffees controlled the ball, passing it around seemingly as they pleased, before they found the opener inside of twenty minutes.
Off a James Garner corner, the ball was punched away by West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, but fell to Idrissa Gana Gueye outside the box, who flipped it over to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall on his left, who found Garner drifting back into the pitch after taking the initial set piece.
The English midfielder whipped the ball back into the 18, where center back Michael Keane smashed it past Areola with his head to give the home side a much-deserved lead.
Everton continued to push in the latter part of the first half, although West Ham grew into the match to even up possession at halftime, despite Everton controlling the scoreboard and shots during the first 45 minute interval.
The Toffees had a few early chances in the second half from Gana, who tried to replicate his goal from Anfield last week, and Dewsbury-Hall, who headed another Garner corner just wide, with Areola looking well beaten had the Everton midfielder been able to get it on target.
The 63rd minute brought on West Ham's first major chance of the second half, as Jordan Pickford slid in to save a well-beaten Jake O'Brien from an embarrassing giveaway, but it wasn't long before the first away goal in a competitive match at Hill Dickinson would do Everton in.
A curling ball in from Hammer's defender Malick Diouf initially seemed to be too long for his teammates, but it fell to Jarrod Bowen on the other side of the box and the Everton back line was not quick enough to react, leaving the West Ham winger all alone to smash it past Pickford to level the match.
There would be a few more half chances before the match was out, particuarly a chance from Garner in the 90th minute, but neither side ever looked like it would find the winner, leading to the sharing of points in the end.
The draw moves Everton from 12th to 9th in the Premier League table, while West Ham remain in the relegation zone in 19th.
Everton hosts Crystal Palace on Sunday, while West Ham travel to Arsenal on Saturday. The Toffees will be without Dewsbury-Hall, who will serve a one match suspension due to yellow card accumulation.
