In a statement issued by the club this morning, Everton confirmed that they've offered new contracts to both club captain Seamus Coleman and reigning Player of the Season Idrissa Gana Gueye. While there's no indication of whether either player has opted to sign, reports have been coming in for a few days now that Gana's deal is nearly done.

Neither announcement is surprising, considering manager David Moyes mentioned the potential Coleman extension before the end of the season and all the rumors surrounding Gana. The difference between the two is rather stark, however, as Gana has continued to be a stalwart in the midfield for Everton, whereas Coleman has struggled with injuries.

The decision, then, may come down to different things for each, as the Irish international could be considering if he wants to continue his career, whereas the Senegal international needs to decide if Everton continue to be his best option.

The club's announcement is also notable because of two players that were named but were directly offered new contracts: striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin and centerback Michael Keane.

Other reports are saying that while the club insists they are continuing to discuss new deals with the pair, conversations with DCL and his representatives have stalled and that the England international will be allowed to leave this summer on a free.

If this is truly the end for Calvert-Lewin at Everton, he'll leave as Everton's third-highest scorer in the Premier League era and 14th in the long and storied history of the club. Considering he came to the club for just £1.5 million in 2016, the return on investment has been excellent.

As for Keane, it doesn't seem impossible for him to return, but the time may have come for him to search for other opportunities, especially if he hopes to find more match time at 32 years old.

Everton also indicated a long list of academy players who are either departing or have been offered new contracts. Those who are staying are unlikely to have any impact on the senior team this season.
