One big critique of David Moyes this season has been his usage of former Barcelona youth defender Adam Aznou. The Moroccan has barely featured this season for the Toffees and hasn’t played any meaningful minutes.
However, he recently made a cameo in perhaps the most important rivalry in football, and it wasn’t as a player on the pitch.
Aznou could be seen next to Lamine Yamal, who is currently injured, wearing an MLB cap in the stands, clapping and rooting for his childhood club as they faced off against Real Madrid.
He didn’t join Yamal on the field for the celebrations after the game as FC Barcelona won yet another La Liga title, but his presence at the game is a significant development for what has been a rough first season for him with Everton.
Having only played 34 minutes for the first team this season, Aznou has been the subject of numerous loan rumors due to a lack of serious playing time. As of today, he also has no Everton pictures or videos on his Instagram page, possibly showcasing that he’s unhappy in the way David Moyes has used him this season.
With Everton’s European dreams slipping away and the team suffering from some defensive lapses in judgment in recent games, perhaps Aznou is deserving of an opportunity to prove himself and show his quality.
However, his appearance at El Clásico and his absence from Everton’s squad list against Crystal Palace are telling of how his spell with the Toffees is going.
