Everton are said to be eyeing a potential move for Albert Gudmundsson, an Icelandic attacker who spent last season at Fiorentina on loan from Genoa.
The 27-year-old scored eight times for the Serie A side this season, playing mostly as an attacking midfielder or second striker, although two of those goals did come from the penalty spot.
He joined Genoa in January 2022, but could not help them escape relegation from Italy's top flight, but he was instrumental in helping the club return to Serie A the following season, scoring 11 times and adding four assists as the club went right back up.
Gudmundsson had another solid season in 2024/25 for Genoa, contributing 16 goals and five assists in both Serie A and the Coppa Italia, as Genoa finished mid-table that season.
His loan spell with Fiorentina was solid, but not to the level of his seasons with Genoa, although he did play in fewer matches. His goals per-90 remained roughly where they had been during his time with his parent club.
But with his contract with Genoa not due to expire until June of 2027, the Iceland international reportedly has his sights set on the Premier League, although Fiorentina is also keen on keeping the player, along with interest from clubs from Ligue 1 and other Serie A teams, including Inter Milan, are also paying attention to the proceedings.
Whether Everton will be in for him to the tune of €28 million or more isn't clear, but the reports are that they are trying to gauge interest and whether he could be a good fit.
Ultimately, that may matter more than anything, since Gudmundsson's main positions are at attacking midfield or a second striker or along the left, two positions Everton will feel strength in with Iliman Ndiaye and Charly Alcaraz.
It doesn't mean that depth can't be achieved; it just matters whether that's the kind of money they want to spend on a player who isn't guaranteed to step into the starting lineup or receive maximum playing time.
