Everton are surely in need of a right back and have been now for several years, so it isn't a surprise that they're being linked with another possible addition at the position as the transfer window nears its end.

This time the link is with Leicester City right back James Justin, who joined the Foxes in 2019 as a 21-year-old, and has been a key part of their squads that have bounced in and out of the Premier League since then.

Justin is a very defensive-minded fullback who may remind Everton supporters of a right-sided Vitalii Mykolenko (in fact, FBRef's Player Comparison chart has the Everton left back as Justin's sixth-ranked compared player). That simply means that Justin is going to rather industriously hold down the defensive spot while not providing a ton going forward.

His per90 numbers give you that kind of indication as well, as he excels in several defensive metrics, such as interceptions, blocks, and clearances, but his passing and carrying of the ball leave a bit to be desired in the modern game.

That said, he does have decent numbers as a goal scorer from the fullback position and has scored four career Premier League goals.

At 27-years-old, Justin isn't going to come in and be a long term option for Everton at the position, but there's plenty of reason to believe that he could come in and be a decent player for the Toffees. His presence would also allow the club to search for an Adam Aznou type of player at right back for the long term future.

It should be noted that Justin has had two major injuries during his career that have caused him to miss large chunks of matches. In February 2021, he tore his ACL and was out for 332 days before returning for Leicester, and then just months later, in November 2022, he tore his Achilles and missed 205 more days.

He's been fairly healthy since then, but it is something to keep an eye on.

For a reported fee between £6-7 million, this would be a decent move for Everton, even if it isn't flashy. But they need a more natural option at right back, and can't count on Nathan Patterson (who could be loaned or sold in this situation) or Seamus Coleman to be the guy.
