Youssef En-Nesyri - Fenerbahce
En-Nesyri is a person of interest according to The Athletic, and according to Fabrizio Romano, the Toffees submitted a loan offer for the player. He can be described as a Beto and Thierno Barry clone statistically, but with a few more goals in him.
En-Nesyri has seven goals this season, and he’s in the 71st percentile for Non-Penalty xG according to FBref.com.
He’s under 30, still in his prime, and would require a substantial minutes share. Bringing him in might force Barry to the bench a bit more, especially if Beto somehow stays.
However, Everton are struggling for goals, and bringing in someone who has seen the back of the net more frequently might change the team’s fortunes.
Callum Wilson - West Ham
Wilson is the second person mentioned in The Athletic’s article, and he’s a bit of an interesting case. He’s a bit on the older side, but he is a proven forward in this league.
If Beto is being put on the transfer list, then Wilson could be an option for the Toffees. His advanced age would make it easy for him to become a mentor figure for Thierno Barry. Wilson has done slightly better than both Barry and Beto this season, but the difference is marginal.
Both options are interesting, but it’s clear that Everton have bigger personnel holes to fill elsewhere. Yes, there are players that will return soon from injury or international play, but even when they were here, Moyes complained about having such a small squad.
The situation has gotten so dire that the club has had to recall Harrison Armstrong from his loan. If the Toffees can get a striker and a right back over the line in January, then these operations make sense. However, if they decide to address the striker position while ignoring other places of need, then there will be questions asked from ownership if the team’s form stagnates.
