Everton locked into race for the signature of young Chelsea star

Other Premier League clubs, including Sunderland, are also involved in the chase.

Everton have submitted a loan bid for Chelsea winger Tyrique George, a move that reportedly includes an option to buy the player, who'll turn 20 next week.

George has very little professional experience, playing in just 30 total matches between Chelsea's top-flight club and the PL2 team. He has spent extensive time on the U18 and U21 squads for the London Blues, playing all across the front line, although he's primarily a left winger.

Among his time for the Chelsea senior side, however, are 159 minutes in the Champions League, including a pair of starts against Benfica and Qarabag, scoring a goal as a substitute against Ajax to boot.

While Everton are not the only Premier League club to have come calling for George's services (Sunderland are also interested, and Fulham was working on a deal over the summer), Everton insider The Bobble suggests that the Toffees are in "advanced talks" for the player.

The sudden spurring on of this move is likely related to the loss of Jack Grealish, another left winger, with a stress fracture in his foot, an injury that David Moyes believes will end the Manchester City loanee's season.

Obviously, Iliman Ndiaye is capable of covering on the left as well, and likely will continue to be Moye's preferred starter at the position even if George does join the fray.

If the moves go through, it will also be interesting to see how the loanee fares in terms of playing time. Everton bought Tyler Dibling, who is only a few weeks younger than George, from Southampton in the summer, but Dibling has found it difficult to carve out a role, even while Ndiaye was away at AFCON and since Grealish got hurt.

The pairing has a chance to be a dynamic duo on the wings, one that could work as the other's opposite for years to come, provided George ends up a permanent member of Everton in the future, but Moyes has seemed disinterested in giving Dibling the time.

So it's fair to ask how things will be different for George.

I suppose his coming in as a loan instead of a permanent deal could factor in, as Chelsea might be able to recall the player if they don't feel he's getting a chance to play. But a similar deal for Merlin Rohl hasn't exactly guaranteed the midfielder regular minutes.

The transfer window closes on Monday night at the same time as the kickoff between Sunderland and Burnley, so the Toffees will need to act fast if they want this, or any other moves, over the line.
