It's no surprise that this season has been a bit of a coming out party for Everton midfield James Garner.

His play this season has earned the 25-year-old a new contract with the club, and now there is more reason for Garner and Evertonians everywhere to celebrate: he has earned his first-ever call-up to the England senior men's side for the upcoming international fixtures.

Garner will join Jordan Pickford, Everton's no.1, as the Three Lions will take on Uruguay and Japan during the upcoming break, with both matches taking place at Wembley Stadium.

It's a loaded midfield group for Thomas Tuchel's side, with players like Jude Bellingham, Cole Palmer, Declan Rice, and Adam Wharton in the mix, not to mention Jordan Henderson, Kobbie Mainoo, Morgan Rogers, and Elliot Anderson.

But given that England has already qualified for this summer's World Cup, making these matches highly-touted exhibition games, there should be opportunities for Garner to showcase his skills in midfield at some point during the break.

Garner has featured in 33 matches for Everton this season, all starts, mostly as a central midfield partner with either Idrissa Gana Gueye or Tim Iroegbunam, but has also played in both fullback spots, proving his versatility.

But it's pretty clear that the midfield is where he's meant to play, a position where he can use his skills on the ball and as a passer to link between the defense and attacking sides of the ball.

That may be even more evident when added to this England side, as the attack will feature some of the world's best players up front, including Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka, and Eberechi Eze, just to name a few (the group also sees former Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the mix for the first time since his breakout season with the Toffees).

The hope is that Garner will have the chance to see a lot of the pitch in order to prove himself to Tuchel heading into the final roster decisions for the World Cup.

It's a tough group to break into, especially given how established in the side players like Rice and Palmer are, but Evertonians know that Garner will do whatever it takes to prove himself.

If nothing else, he wants to show Tuchel that this season has not been a mirage, and that the Everton midfielder is worthy of regular inclusion in the team.
