Everton to contemplate January swoop for Irish scoring star

There are further reports that the Blues are considering trying to sign another striker, as the obvious struggles of Thierno Barry and Beto so far this season continue.

It will come as little surprise to any Everton supporters that David Moyes is scouring the transfer market for further goal-scoring reinforcements in the New Year window.

As we have already discussed, this will not be easy with the unique pressures of a shortened January transfer slot and the fact that any club prepared to consider selling players is able to ask a premium price for them.

But the problems in front of goal are starkly apparent to Moyes and Toffees fans everywhere, and so unless Barry and/or Beto can somehow find their shooting boots and very soon, the lack of consistent threat up front will surely undermine Everton's prospects in this campaign.

Now comes a story that the Blues boss has identified a possible forward player he hopes might provide that necessary firepower at last.

Troy Parrott has been impressing in Dutch domestic football with AZ Alkmaar and has also been finding the net for his country, with the Irish international scoring some critical goals for Ireland's World Cup campaign.

This form has brought him to the attention of several Premier League clubs. And Everton are supposedly one of them, with rumours that Parrott is now top of Moyes' holiday season wish list.

Parrott, though, is not the only name who has been linked with a move to the Premier League in January as Ivan Toney is thought to be ready to return to English football from Saudi Arabia.

The former Brentford and England centre-forward is looking to come back because he wants a chance to force his way into Thomas Tuchel's England squad, who just comfortably qualified for next summer's World Cup in North America.

Everton could make a very good destination for Toney, and with his quality and experience, he would surely make a big difference to a side struggling to score goals.

However, Tottenham are also apparently interested in bringing the former Bees star back, and given their much higher profile and position in the Premier League, together with them also being a London club, makes them a much more likely destination. Ironically, Parrott started his career at Spurs.

So, a player such as the Irishman might well be a more realistic option for the Toffees and certainly would not be expecting the sort of wages Toney has been used to in the Middle East.

Moyes will have money to spend in the New Year, with owners The Freidkin Group having recently put more money into the club to continue their overhaul of the club's finances and avoid any further PSR complications.

Will Parrott be leaving Holland for a return to the Premier League and Everton? Of course, we cannot know yet, but no doubt further rumours will surface and speculation is likely to continue as Moyes' strikers fail to perform.
