The end of the 2024/25 Premier League campaign arrives on Sunday, and most of the major decisions for year have already been made. Liverpool have been champions for a few weeks and Ipswich, Leicester, and Southampton have had their relegations confirmed for a while as well.
There's room for shuffling in the bottom four (Wolves, West Ham, Manchester United, and Tottenham are all within three points of one another) and there could be some movement for spots 9 to 12 (Brentford is 3 points ahead of Crystal Palace in 12th, with Fulham a point behind the Bees and Bournemouth a point behind the Cottagers).
Otherwise, the main area of focus are the final Champions League spots.
Liverpool are in, as are second-place Arsenal, and Manchester City are all but confirmed due to their goal differential, which will give them a tie breaker for third place over any of the teams below them.
That group includes Newcastle, Chelsea, and Aston Villa, who are all two points back of City, and Nottingham Forest, who are three points off the pace.
The scenarios are plenty, then, that could see any of those teams get into the Champions League, although the two at the bottom of the list must both win and get some help from clubs playing the teams above them.
That's where Everton come into the mix, as Newcastle are one of the "win and you're in" teams. So while the Toffees have already confirmed their place in the final table, they can have something to play for if they want to be in the business of spoiling the Magpies' Champions League hopes.
Here is everything you need to know for Sunday's season finale at St. James' Park.
Current table position
Everton sit in 13th and they cannot go any higher or lower. They're four points clear of 14th place Wolves and seven behind 12th place Crystal Palace.
This is already Everton's highest finish and points total since 2020/21 under Carlos Ancelotti with the Toffees far clear of the relegation zone.
Newcastle sit in 4th, but it's a tenuous position based on Sunday's outcome.
When and where is the match?
The match will take place at St. James' Park in Newcastle, with kickoff scheduled, like the rest of the matches on the final day, for 4 PM local time on Sunday, May 25.
In the United States, that's an 11 AM ET/10 AM CT/8 AM PT start. The match will be televised on Peacock in the States.
Matchup Notes
Both sides come in having won two, lost two, and drawn one of their last five, although Everton is on a three game unbeaten run, whereas Newcastle are coming off a disappointing 1-0 loss to Arsenal last weekend.
The last two matchups between the clubs have resulted in draws, with the last win coming for Everton, when they beat the Magpies 3-0 at Goodison Park on December 7, 2023, with goals coming from Dwight McNeil, Abdoulaye Doucoure, and Beto.
For Everton, James Tarkowski, Jesper Lindstrom, and Orel Mangala remain out for the Toffees, while Seamus Coleman and Jarrad Branthwaite are doubtful for the match, at least until we here more information from David Moyes later in the week.
For Newcastle, leading goal scorer Alexander Isak remains out with a groin injury, with Joelinton (knee) and Lewis Hall (ankle) also going to miss the match. Fullbacks Kieran Trippier (calf) and Matt Targett (hamstring) are doubtful.
