The Premier League will end its first run of matches this weekend, and then many of the players will be heading off to either player World Cup qualifying matches for their country, or take a bit of a break if they haven't been called upon.
Everton's final match of its initial stretch will be a trip to Molineux to take on Wolverhampton Wanderers, a club that has struggled to find its footing in its first two league matches.
Wolves have yet to score a goal in the league, losing 4-0 to Manchester City at home on the opening weekend, and falling to Bournemouth by a 1-0 scoreline last Saturday. They did score three times in a Carabao Cup win over West Ham at Molineux on Tuesday, but two of those came in the final ten minutes of the matches via substitute Jorgen Strand Larsen.
But Wolves' star man is reportedly being courted by Newcastle, and Craig Hope of the Daily Mail is saying that he's planning to miss the Everton match to force the move.
Everton, on the other hand, has won two straight 2-0 matches, both at home, although the underlying performances haven't always been as dominant as the scoreline indicates. The Toffees will be looking for a better away showing than the season opener at Leeds.
Here's are some key notes for the match, along with information on how to watch.
Match Notes
Everton are set to miss the trio of Adam Aznou, Jarrad Branthwaite, and Nathan Patterson again, although Vitalii Mykolenko is expected to play after returning to the lineup on Wednesday against Mansfield Town.
For Wolves, outside of possibly missing Strand Larsen, forward Leon Chiwome is set to miss as he recovers from a knee injury, and right back Ki-Jana Hoever is doubtful with a knee injury.
Three of the last four matchups have featured clean sheets by the victorious team. Everton won 4-0 at Goodison Park on December 4, 2024, Wolves won 3-0 at Molineux on December 30, 2023, and 1-0 at Goodison on August 23, 2023. The last meeting, in March of this year, was a 1-1 draw at Wolves.
The referee will be Michael Oliver.
These two sides will meet again at Molineux in the Carabao Cup on September 17.
