Everton's projected starting XI for Tuesday night trip Bournemouth

Unlike the first few weeks of the season, injuries and suspensions are now making this exercise much more complicated.

It was an odd week for Everton last week.

First, there was the massive win over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday night, the Blues' first win at the famous ground since 2013.

But the follow-up performance on Saturday was an ugly 4-1 loss to Newcastle United at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, which saw the Toffees go down inside of the first minute, and two further first-half concessions essentially ended the match in 45 minutes.

Annoyingly, Everton did decently to create in that match, but an unfortunate handball against Thierno Barry, the crossbar, and defensive ineptitude led to their demise on that day.

But the good news is that Everton will be force to flush that loss away, as they'll immediately turn their attention to Bournemouth, and a trip to the Vitality Stadium on Tuesday night.

With the suspension of Idrissa Gana Gueye and injuries to Merlin Röhl, Jarrad Branthwaite, Seamus Coleman, and Nathan Patterson, David Moyes will have plenty of selection headaches.

Everton's projected starting XI vs Bournemouth (4-1-2-2-1)

Goalkeeper & Defenders

Jordan Pickford (GK): Saturday wasn't Pickford's best effort, but he remains the clear choice here.

Vitalii Mykolenko (LB): The Ukrainian international remains limited, especially going forward, but it's also clear that Moyes doesn't rate giving Adam Aznou a chance.

James Tarkowski (CB): Certainly not blameless for Saturday's outcome, but given the options at centerback, Tark is a no-doubt starter here.

Michael Keane (CB): Keane remains the better of the two center backs this season, despite the altercation with Gana against United. The main issue with this pairing is that it's very much a "for now" duo.

Jake O'Brien (RB): Under different circumstances, O'Brien could get a run in his natural position, but with the attrition going on in the midfield at the moment, there's little choice for Moyes until January brings in a new right back. He's going to have his hands full with Antoine Semenyo.

Midfielders

James Garner (CM): Missing Gana was clearly not ideal against Newcastle, as neither Garner nor his midfield partner could do anything to stop the visitors. Garner's overall play should allow him to keep his spot.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (CAM): Moyes may be forced to switch things up and move into a double-10's set up, because Tim Iroegbunam is not the answer next to Garner. This leaves Garner isolated, which could be a problem, but there needs to be some way to shake things up.

Charly Alcaraz (CAM): The Argentinian made his presence felt when he came on against Newcastle. He needs a run of matches while Gana is out (remember, AFCON starts in a few weeks). This isn't a very defensive setup, but both KDH and Alcaraz will work hard in that area.

Forwards

Jack Grealish (LW): The England international hasn't shone as brightly in recent weeks, but he's still a vital piece of Everton's attack.

Iliman Ndiaye (RW): Everton's talisman only has three more matches (this one, home to Forest, and away to Chelsea) before departing for AFCON. Moyes should take advantage of Ndiaye's presence while he has it.

Thierno Barry (CF): He still hasn't scored (well, he has, but the handball rule is super clear), but his work rate against both United and Newcastle has been excellent. Keep handing him the keys, and the goals will come.
