Jack Grealish's hugely deflected strike proved the difference in a hard-fought encounter at the Vitality Stadium as Everton pulled off a second consecutive one-goal win away from home.
It was a good response from the Blues after that deflating performance against the Magpies, and lifted the team back into a decent position in a congested and very competitive Premier League mid-table.
Although Everton got a valuable three points at Bournemouth, there are mounting problems for David Moyes to deal with as the games keep coming during the looming festive season.
Injuries are becoming an issue with the defence, in particular, being most affected following the injury to Seamus Coleman at Manchester United, and now with Michael Keane very likely to miss the weekend's game against Nottingham Forest and their manager, former Blues boss Sean Dyche.
Added to those absences is midfielder Merlin Rohl, who has been struggling with fitness issues since he signed in the summer on transfer deadline day and is still currently unavailable.
That injury is a particular problem as the engine room is so important to the team's overall effectiveness and plays a key role in protecting the defence too.
Everton, of course, will soon be without their midfield ball-winning kingpin as Idrissa Gueye heads off to the Africa Cup of Nations with his Toffees team-mate Iliman Ndiaye.
Gueye is also serving a ban for his sending off at United after that infamous first-half altercation with Keane. He still has one more game to go before that is over.
Now, the Blues will also be without another midfielder who has been a little inconsistent but turned in a strong performance on the South Coast on Tuesday evening.
Tim Iroegbunam's Everton career has not exactly gone to plan since he signed in the summer of 2024, but he has proved a useful reserve at times, and so his loss for a one-game ban, after picking up another yellow card, is an ill-timed blow.
Moyes' men now have a series of challenging fixtures ahead to end the calendar year, with two matches against Dyche's Forest sandwiching games with Chelsea, league leaders Arsenal, and struggling Burnley.
With these absences and the continuing lack of goals from his two strikers, the Everton manager has some serious juggling of his remaining players to get through those matches.
