The transfer window marches on with relatively little to show for it. All the while, Everton have had trouble getting things kicked off in preseason so far. For supporters of the boys in blue from Merseyside, the summer isn't off to the greatest start.
There have been rumors on top of rumors focused on players that Everton want to bring into the side, and David Moyes has admitted that it's been tough for the club, that they've been grinding away at making deals happen, but that it has been difficult to convince players to come without European football as a lure.
It's very likely that Everton will need to get creative, adding players on frees, taking on a few loans as the window nears its close on September 1, and scouring other clubs, both in England and elsewhere, for players who are out of favor.
Enter the opinion of former Everton winger Pat Nevin, who has taken a look at Manchester United's squad and suggested a move the Toffees could make: England international Jadon Sancho.
No rumors have surfaced outside of Nevin's thoughts, but it certainly is an interesting idea, not to far afield from all the scuttlebut around Jack Grealish.
Sancho began his career with the Manchester City PL2 squad, before joining Borussia Dortmund in 2017 when he was just 17-years-old. After a slow start, he exploded in back-to-back-to-back seasons starting in 2018/2019.
Over that period, he scored 49 goals and added 54 assists in 125 matches, earning him a move to Manchester United in 2021. He's been decent in two seasons with the Red Devils, but nothing like he was in the Bundesliga, although he did overperform his xG in both seasons. He was loaned back to Dortmund in 2023/24 and Chelsea last year, where he played well in relatively limited minutes.
I have no idea what this would look like from an Everton perspective or even if Sancho would want to join. A loan would be more likely, since he's got two years left on his contract, although Transfermarkt's value isn't terrible.
Whether he'd solve Everton's right winger problem, even for a season, is another question. He has played there, but it isn't clear if that's his best position.
Again, as of yet, there's nothing connecting the Toffees to the player, but as the transfer market winds down in the next few weeks, Jadon Sancho might be a name to watch.
