Everton are continuing to set up the building blocks for a long-term project, and Tyrique George, who is close to rejoining the team for next season’s campaign, is set to become one of those guys that the team decide to put their hopes in.

George’s impact in 2026 was minimal, but his individual quality cannot be denied. He’s fluid on the ball, comfortable cutting and drifting into different areas, and can play on both flanks.

Jack Grealish’s club future is uncertain, and if Everton cannot bring the experienced wide playmaker back, then George would certainly be in contention to take over that starting spot on the left.

Another possibility is that Iliman Ndiaye, who played on the right plenty last season while Grealish was available, could slot back to the left side, leaving the right flank available for either George, Tyler Dibling, or Dwight McNeil. McNeil has plenty of Premier League experience, but his best Everton days were with Sean Dyche; his time with David Moyes has not been as productive at an individual level.

That’s why I think George will be given a chance at the right side of the pitch and excel. His individual qualities are clear, and his development as a professional is still in its early stages.

Playing McNeil over him offers nothing in terms of future-proofing this squad, but if George gets the nod, he can develop into the star that Everton fans project him to be.
