Everton have had a decent start to the season, but they’re in an intriguing position. Having played Wolves just a few weeks ago, the Toffees will return to face them in the next round of the EFL Cup,

Wolverhampton have had a bad start to the season and are in sharp contrast to the boys in blue. However, beating teams twice in the span of a few weeks is always tricky, so if Everton want to do the deed, they’ll have to change one big thing.

The defensive performance against Wolves left a lot to be desired. The two goals that the Toffees gave up could have been easily prevented if either James Tarkowski or Michael Keane had been more attentive to the space around them.

Tarkowski specifically needs to have a big rebound game. He has struggled mightily due to not having Jarrad Branthwaite next to him in the center back pairing. As of now, Keane has played at a higher level, which could put into question Tarkowski’s starting position when Branthwaite eventually returns from injury.

Wolves have some aerial prowess that they never took advantage of, so one would assume that they would double down on that against Everton, especially on corners. The Toffees have also struggled to keep their left backs healthy, so having either Adam Aznou or Vitalii Mykolenko available would be huge.

Fans shouldn’t expect another three-goal performance. Whoever wins this game will be whoever makes the fewest mistakes defensively. It’s up to Everton’s backline to limit their mistakes and provide the midfield some breathing room to control their tempo.
