Liverpool vs Everton match preview
As Everton prepare for their biggest game of the season, can they make it three wins in a row? Last weekend, the Toffees beat West Ham United 1-0, courtesy of a last gasp own goal by Laia Codina at the Chigwell Construction Stadium. Yūka Momika claimed the header, but it was an own goal for sure.
That is now back-to-back 1-0 WSL wins for Scott Phelan's team, also beating Charlton in their home opener at Goodison, again thanks to an own goal. The Blues did lose on the opening weekend of the campaign at Crystal Palace, but have built up some decent momentum subsequently.
In the WSL Players Cup on Wednesday night, Everton were 2-0 winners over Birmingham City, thanks to goals from Zara Kramžar and then Momika. So, while acknowledging that they're yet to face a top team so far this season, the Toffees will come into this Merseyside derby with sky-high confidence, hoping to continue their flawless Anfield record.
As for Liverpool, can they finally end their Anfield derby day hoodoo? Well, despite finishing second-bottom of the WSL last season, Gareth Taylor has big ambitions for this team, and his side have looked good thus far. The Reds hammered Charlton Athletic on the opening day, before a creditable 1-1 draw with Spurs in St Helens.
Then, on Friday night, Taylor's team looked set to shock his former side and champions Manchester City. The Reds led at one stage, Alice Bergström and Vivien Endemann on target, the score 2-2 going into injury time. Just when Liverpool thought they were going to earn a famous point, Grace Fisk's own goal put the Sky Blues in front, before Lauren Hemp made the points secure late on.
Liverpool did bounce back with a 4-2 victory over Sunderland at BrewDog Stadium in the League Cup in mid-week, Marie Höbinger on target twice, but now need to rise to the occasion and win a derby in front of a big crowd. So, will this be an historic day for the Reds, or can Everton make it six derby wins out of six at Anfield?

Gareth Taylor confirmed on Friday that Mao Itamura, Lucy Parry and Mari Ward are all injured, while Anna Jøsendal and Ceri Holland are sidelined long-term. In better news, Kirsty Maclean and new goalkeeper Khiara Keating are in fill training, while Marie Höbinger should be available, despite suffering a knock against Sunderland.
Meantime, Vivien Endemann is already the star of this side, having arrived from Wolfsburg in the summer. The German international's exploits against Charlton and Manchester City means she is the first player in WSL history to record and goal and an assist in two of her first three appearances, so will she shine again?

In a blow for Scott Phelan, Issy Hobson will be sidelined for an extended period of time, after suffering an injury on Wednesday, so Naomi Layzell and Hannah Silcock are likely to return at centre-back. The side that started the League Cup tie was heavily rotated, so will Phelan revert back to the side that beat West Ham in the last WSL match?
