Everton supporters have been waiting all summer for the club to get moving and sign the talent that is clearly needed to bolster a paper-thin squad and improve the quality of players as well. So, they will welcome a confirmation from David Moyes that he is far from finished in the transfer market.
So far, though, the Toffees have only added two new players this summer, with striker Thierno Barry and goalkeeper Mark Travers brought in from Villarreal and Bournemouth respectively, and making the January loan of Carlos Alcaraz into a permanent signing.
But there are big gaps in the squad that must be addressed with the need at a minimum for new full-backs, midfield reinforcements, and wide attacking players, plus I would say another striker.
However, as the summer ticks on, Everton still seem to be uncertain who exactly they are focused on as their primary targets, with an almost endless number of various players linked from time to time. The latest rumour is that the club are readying a bid for young Bayern Munich full-back Adam Aznou.
Now, as he prepares his players for their matches in the US, Moyes has stated in black and white what he needs in terms of new signings to give the Blues a chance to compete again properly in the Premier League at last.
The manager's comments seem to be a public reassurance to the fans that he knows what needs to be done and a reiteration to the club's owners, the Friedkin Group, and chief executive Angus Kinnear, that there is a lot of work still to do to secure these new players.
Meanwhile, Everton's rivals are continually making their moves and securing new talent, with news today that a striker the Blues were supposedly tracking in Callum Wilson has decided to join West Ham.
