While Everton have played some fine football at times in this campaign and secured a healthy eleven points from their first seven matches, goals are still proving hard to come by.
So far, the Toffees' two main forwards have only managed one Premier League strike between them, and that is clearly not good enough if the side is to sustain and then build on the early momentum created.
Beto, who has remained the manager's usual first-choice centre-forward, has that solitary goal but has meanwhile displayed the sort of erratic form that has characterised him since he signed, looking threatening at times, although more often also missing easy chances far too often.
Summer signing Thierno Barry has struggled to establish himself since he joined, and he still looks a long way off solving the club's problems up front.
Fortunately, other players have chipped in with several players contributing, such as Iliman Ndiaye, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and in the last win over Crystal Palace, Jack Grealish also opened his account for Everton.
That is good to see, and we all hope that players such as Grealish, Ndiaye, and Dewsbury-Hall, as well as others, can keep adding goals regularly.
But relying on other outfield players to score the goals needed will not be enough in the long run to enable the Blues to keep winning games and really challenge for the upper echelons of the League, or perhaps even more importantly, a trophy.
Aside from the option to change tactics and try a different formation to increase the goal-scoring capability of his team, Moyes surely has to be thinking about going back into the transfer market for a new striker in January.
The New Year window is not generally an ideal time to try and add reinforcements, as players are much less readily available than in the summer, and their price is usually higher too.
Finding forwards who can deliver goals consistently is, anyway, arguably the hardest position to fill in any team, so it will be an even tougher task if Everton decides to try and sign another striker in two months time.
There might be one possible option in the shape of Newcastle United forward William Osula, as the Denmark international could be available in January.
That is according to Football Insider, who claim the player might be ready to leave Tyneside as he has fallen out of favour with Eddie Howe after the Black and Whites signed Yoane Wissa and Nick Woltemade last summer.
Toffees supporters will remember Woltemade was a player Everton tried hard to get themselves, but they failed to secure a deal for the giant German forward and settled on Barry instead.
As for Osula, he could be on his way out of St James Park in January, with the Magpies apparently ready to sell the 22-year-old, who would probably be made available initially on loan.
Osula's goal record does not make for great reading, although, to be fair to the player, he has had very limited opportunities at Newcastle. He does have pace and height, making him a similar type to Moyes' current options.
Signing another young forward who is relatively untried and untested probably raises as many questions as it might answer, but Everton will certainly struggle to find an experienced striker who is available and, most of all, affordable too.
