Everton however have denied reports that Farhad Moshiri and John Textor are meeting this week in Liverpool to finalise details of the deal and enable the American to become the prospective new owner.
The Guardian has stated that things are moving quickly and Textor and Moshiri will meet in the city with a deal being done possibly as soon as this week.
According to this story, in practical terms, Textor is apparently confident he can delay the deal time-frame, so presumably allowing him the time to divest himself of his holdings in fellow Premier League club Crystal Palace.
Of course we have been here before several times with prospective owners entering exclusivity and then eventually either withdrawing or failing to complete the deal.
The complication of the club's debt situation together with Textor's position as co-owner of Palace, means that this process still has a long way to go, before any resolution can be reached.
Feverish rumours are bound to circulate at the moment with Everton's ownership situation so uncertain as the club appears to lurch from one crisis to another off-the-pitch.
After seeing the Friedkin Group - who followed 777 Partners eight month long failed attempt to take control of the club - pull out last month, no one is going to be feeling optimistic about this scenario ever being sorted out.
Things on the pitch are certainly not going well either, with last Saturday's three-nil defeat against Brighton a deeply depressing return to the sort of games we have seen far to often over the last few seasons.
Whoever does take control of the club eventually, will have a big job on their hands to rebuild this Blues team and enable it to compete once more at the higher end of the Premier League.
Will that person by Textor? Again, we can only wait and see if the 58-year-old - who also has interests in clubs in Europe and Brazil - can complete a takeover and finally end this saga successfully.
