De Ligt to United rumours back with Everton star's future still uncertain

More stories today focus on Manchester United's pursuit of defensive reinforcements with new rumours of a bid for Dutch centre-back Matthijs de Ligt, which will potentially impact on Toffees defender Jarrad Branthaite's future.

This is a story that we first broke a few weeks ago that United were potentially switching their attention away from Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite towards the Dutchman.

The Old Trafford club had been repeatedly linked with a move for Branthwaite and tabled a bid of around £35 million for the England international.

Rightly, the Blues rejected that bid and the club has been holding firm for a fee of around £70 million. which for most Toffees supporters sounds much more like it.

Now, with news that United are very keen on de Ligt, the same outlet claims that United's valuation of the Everton star was not too low.

Regardless of this debate, at the moment and since that earlier bid for Branthwaite, the Blues Premier League rivals have not yet returned with a new bid.

Rumours continue to swirl that they will come back but so far we have no clearer idea when or if United will come back for the player and if so how much they will offer.

On the transfer front Everton have sold two players, Lewis Dobbin who moved to Aston Villa and now Ben Godfrey who has moved to Atalanta in Italy.

Those deals will give the club a bit more breathing room regarding their finances and the wider PSR situation with the end of June deadline approaching tomorrow.

That in turn, means there might be less pressure to sell other more valuable assets such as Branthwaite and Onana.
