When this summer's transfer window opened there was uncertainty about what Everton could or would do as far as strengthening their squad was concerned.
Clearly, the priority for additions had to be trying to improve the team's attacking and goal-scoring threat and the need for more pace and width up front.
As it turned out the Toffees made a number of surprisingly early moves in the transfer market and added several new forwards with new signings Iliman Ndiaye and Jesper Lindstrum joining as well as Jack Harrison returning for another year on loan.
That business gives the Blues four wingers at least on paper and following these early transfers it appeared as though the club were more or less done with incoming signings.
And given the ongoing confusion and uncertainty around the ownership, it means that Everton don't seem to have much money to spend now with the long-term financial position so unclear.
However, there might still be more additions, probably on loan. Any further permanent additions seem much less likely and for that to happen the club would surely need to sell before they could re-enter the market.
Ongoing rumours surround the future of several Toffees players most of all of course Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
So far neither of these individuals have as yet left Merseyside and it could be that both players are still at Goodison Park for the upcoming season.
But without at least one or two further exits, or a swift resolution to the ownership problem - which looks very unlikely - it is hard to see how Everton can make further signings.
The Toffees have long been interested in young Italian winger Gnonto and of course as we all know tried hard to sign him last summer.
Well now after several further rumours since this transfer window opened, Leeds appear to have set their price for the 21-year-old.
According to Football Insider, that fee will be around £25 million. At the moment this is a price tag which would be beyond the Blues reach.
Given that, perhaps a more affordable option could be South American star Ramon Sosa.
The Paraguay international winger wants to move from his Argentinian club CA Talleres and appeared close to a move abroad just recently.
That club was strongly rumoured to be Nottingham Forest. However, that possible move has broken down leaving the door potentially open for others to move in.
Sosa scored four goals and made four assists in twenty-two games last season for the Argentine side.
He generally plays wide on the left wing but can operate across the front line as well and would be available for about £10 -12 million or so. This makes him a much more affordable an option for Everton.
