Everton must get win tonight as Dyche given timely injury boost
Blues boss Sean Dyche has been sweating on the fitness of several key players and it looks as though he will be able to welcome three, possibly four of them back tonight.
Facing Palace tonight Everton are in desperate need of a win after a series of draws to open 2024 and then the two nil defeat at Machester City in their last Premier League game.
And, although Nottingham Forest won at the weekend, Burnley, Sheffield United and then most importantly Luton, were all beaten.
So, this evening Dyche's team get a great chance to claw some points back on the Hatters who have recently been on a good run of form, which enabled them to leapfrog the Toffees in the table.
To help him to do so the manager will likely have several key players back tonight, including Seamus Coleman, Ben Godfrey and Amadou Onana.
As well as those individuals another player who should be available is perhaps the most significant and important; Abdoulaye Doucoure.
If Doucoure does make it this evening then it will hopefully make a big difference to Everton's most pressing problem, which is scoring goals.
The Blues have failed to win a single Premier League match and have only managed more than two goals in a game once, since Doucoure limped off during the win at Burnley back on the 16th December last year.
Dyche has missed havinig his midfield ace for two months and must be hoping that if he is fit enough to start he can make a difference immeadiately.
Although Doucoure might be ready another of Dyche's attacking players Arnaut Danjuma isn't ready for a return and will probably be out for another month.
This leaves the manager with a lack of options out wide as he only has Dwight McNeil and Jack Harrison available in those positions.
While I have said Dyche needs to think differently about how his team lines up to try and get more goals out of them, I imagine he will probably stick to his tried and tested approach especially if Doucoure is fit.
Whoever starts and however they line up, Everton really must come away with all the points tonight and make some ground on their relegaiton rivals.
They do at least have some good recent results against Palace beating them in that nail-biting penultimate game of the 2022-23 campaign and just last month in the FA Cup. More of the same this evening please!
