Throughout last season and the once the transfer window opened, it has been crystal clear that the main problem Everton had to solve, is finding ways to score more goals.
The Blues managed a paltry forty goals in the last Premier League campaign, the second lowest in the English top flight.
As a result, when the window opened, the priority had to be strengthening the team's attack - and the Toffees brass moved to do just that.
After signing midfielder Tim Iroegbunam, Everton added forwards Jack Harrison - on loan for a second consecutive season - Iliman Ndiaye and Jesper Lindstrom.
So far so good, at least on paper. However, early on there were rumours that the Blues would lose centre-forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin with Newcastle United being his most likely suitors.
Calvert-Lewin has been offered a new contract as he only has a year left on his current deal. So far though, he has not signed, meaning he will leave in a year's time, possibly for nothing.
Everton cannot really afford for that to happen and so it is possible the club will have to be sold were a suitable offer to come in.
There are twelve days left in the summer transfer window for the Toffees to either sort out that contract issue with him, or sell the player.
Even if Calvert-Lewin stays, I think Everton still need another striker given that the former England centre-forward managed just eight goals last season while Beto his back-up, added only three more.
The club's other main striker Yousef Chermiti, has been injured and so is not available for a few weeks at least. He is also still young and very inexperienced in Premier League terms.
Nketiah is the sort of forward who could well suit what the Blues need. He has become frustrated by the lack of opportunity at the Emirates Stadium as Arsenal have a raft of other strikers to choose from.
Previously, there has been stories linking him with a possible move to Merseyside and now comes a fresh report that Everton are serious about a loan deal.
It surely would not be any more than that given the financial pressures the Toffees are under at the moment with no end in sight as yet to the ownership crisis.
But with the team heading for an opening day defeat against Brighton this afternoon and once again looking toothless in front of goal fresh blood up front looks much-needed.
