Everton have had a long break since the defeat away to Wolves that led to the Toffees' Carabao Cup exit last Tuesday.

The club returns to Premier League action tonight, with West Ham United and its new manager coming to Hill Dickinson Stadium hoping to get back on track after two straight league defeats.

And so both sides will be working to do the same thing, as Everton are also on a bit of a skid after picking up 7 points in three matches a few weeks ago.

Much has been made of David Moyes' recent team selections, especially in the loss at Wolves in the Carabao Cup, but the Scottish manager also got things wrong in the Merseyside Derby just days earlier. He'll need to prove he can set up his team well for this match and get Everton back to winning ways.

Everton's Starting Lineup v West Ham (4-2-3-1)

Goalkeeper & Defenders

Jordan Pickford (GK): It's hard to say if Pickford's presence might have saved Everton's cup run, especially since the Toffees didn't score themselves. I'd be surprised if the England no.1 sits again this season.

Vitalii Mykolenko (LB): The Ukrainian international appears to be fit enough to start again, after 85 minutes in the derby and a cameo in the Cup loss.

James Tarkowski (CB): After a tough start, the veteran defender is back to his old self, with 1.8 blocks per 90 so far this season.

Michael Keane (CB): Still a few more weeks without Jarrad Branthwaite, so Keane, who has been pretty good covering the position, is here again.

Jake O'Brien (RB): Looked better going forward away to Wolves, but remains a square peg in the round right back hole.

Midfielders

Idrissa Gana Gueye (CDM): You really noticed his absence on Tuesday, so expect him to be right back in the side. Everton still don't have a solution for his extended absence in December.

James Garner (CM): Has been one of Everton's most consistent performers so far this campaign, even as he's been moved around the pitch to different positions.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (CM): He's been less useful as a direct no.10, so hopefully he and Garner sit back together, with KDH allowed to push the ball forward with his excellent passing.

Forwards

Jack Grealish (LW): He's been asked to do a lot this year, and there's a case to be made that Everton are already overdependent on him, but there's also little doubt what a difference he makes when he's on the pitch.

Iliman Ndiaye (RW): Still not his best position, but he manages to remain useful on the right. Could an opportunity to lead the line come later on if the striking pair continues to disappoint?

Beto (CF): While neither Beto nor Thierno Barry has taken the job by the scruff of the neck and made it their own, the Guinea-Bissau international is clearly preferred in the Premier League.
