Predicting results for Everton's final eight Premier League matches

The season is nearing its end, but the Toffees still have a chance to finish the season well.

This weekend marks the final match before an extended international break, as there are still slots to fill for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, which is set to kick off on June 11 when Mexico takes on South Africa in Mexico City.

After this weekend, a visit by Chelsea that should be nothing but normal for the visitors, there will be just seven matches left on Everton's schedule. Currently sitting in 8th in the Premier League table on 43 points, the Toffees have a strong chance of eclipsing the 50-point total for the first time since the 2020/21 season.

With that in mind, let's take a look at the rest of Everton's schedule and predict how the matches will turn out, tracking the points for the Blues along the way.

Matchweek 31: Saturday, March 21, home for Chelsea

Everton host Chelsea for the first time at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, with the hosts having won their first match there since December against Burnley two weeks ago.

Chelsea have just one win in the Premier League over their last five, a 4-1 away victory over Aston Villa. Like Everton, the London Blues have been very good on the road this season, sitting second in the league in away points with 25, level with Manchester City and one better than Everton's 24.

This doesn't feel like a good matchup for Everton, and it feels like the Toffees are bound to reverse the good vibes they thought they rekindled with the Burnley win.

Result: Loss

Points: 43

Matchweek 32: Saturday, April 11, away to Brentford

It will be strength on strength as the international break ends, with Brentford one of the league's better home sides (6th on 26 points) facing off against Everton's aforementioned away form.

These are two sides fighting for a top-8 finish, hoping some other things will break so that European qualification dips that low in the table. That should make this a solid matchup featuring two teams who play each other rather equally in recent years.

Result: Draw

Points: 44

Matchweek 33: Sunday, April 19, home for Liverpool

The first-ever Merseyside derby at the Hill Dickinson comes with extra importance given how close in the table the two sides could find themselves heading into the match.

Everton have been much better at home against their intracity rivals in recent years, with the Toffees earning one win, four draws, and just a single loss in those matches going back to 2020.

Here's hoping the occasion is enough for Everton to pick up a vital point.

Result: Draw

Points: 45

Matchweek 34: Saturday, April 25, away to West Ham

Fun fact: the rest of Everton's away matches this season send the Blues to London.

This one provides the Toffees with their best chance at a win, as David Moyes returns to one of his old stomping grounds.

Sure, West Ham could have plenty to play for if they remain in the relegation zone, but with few great opportunities to grab three points, this is the one where Moyes needs to go for it.

Result: Win

Points: 48

Matchweek 35: Saturday, May 2, home for Manchester City

Manchester City are likely already out of the title race, given a massive fall by Arsenal, so City's main focus will likely be on fending off their city-mates to remain in second place, at least as far as the league is concerned.

Everton haven't won in this fixture since January 2017, and that doesn't feel like it's a streak that will end any time soon.

Result: Loss

Points: 48

Matchweek 36: Saturday, May 9, away to Crystal Palace

Everton have actually owned this fixture in recent years, winning 13 times (drawing 11) versus just four wins for Palace going back to 2013.

Jack Grealish scored a late winner in the reverse fixture at Hill Dickinson, and while the winger won't be around this time, Everton should have enough to win, especially given the club's away form.

Result: Win

Points: 51

Matchweek 37: Sunday, May 17, home for Sunderland

This will be the third matchup between these two sides during this season, with the Blues securing a 1-1 draw at the Stadium of Light back in November, and Sunderland winning, albeit on penalties, in the FA Cup 3rd round at Hill Dickinson in January.

That match was rather uninspiring, and with this serving as the penultimate match of the season, it remains to be seen if either side will have much to play for.

That said, Everton will want to close out the campaign at Hill Dickinson the same way it began.

Result: Win

Points: 54

Matchweek 38: Sunday, May 24, away to Tottenham

It's the final day, and there's a real chance that Tottenham may need this match to avoid going down.

The reverse fixture was not a banner day for the Blues at Hill Dickinson, losing 3-0 to Spurs, who became the first away side to win at the new ground back in late October, which began Everton's run of poor home form.

So much will depend on what each side needs from this match.

Maybe Everton need points to push for Europe, while Spurs may need to stay in the Premier League, although that doesn't feel like the most likely outcome.

Instead, a gentlemanly tie feels like the outcome here.

Result: Draw

Final points: 55

Likely finishing slot: 8-10
