According to Patrick Boyland at The Athletic, Iliman Ndiaye hasn’t put pen to paper on contract propositions sent over from Everton. The Senegalese star still has three years left on his current deal, but this development puts into question his long-term future at the club.
Ndiaye finished this season with three fewer Premier League goals than the year before, but he did grab three assists, which is three more than he did last year.
Ndiaye’s value doesn’t only come from his goal contributions, though. His strength is more qualitative than quantitative. The way he escapes pressure, combines with his teammates, and progresses play is outstanding and a premium quality that other teams may be interested in. The second half of the season was tough production-wise, but the majority of the squad struggled down the stretch, especially without Jack Grealish, who went down with an injury.
The Toffees are set to invest in several key pieces this summer, and they’re already leading the race for Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney, according to David Ornstein. A genuine push for Europe with new quality players next season could sway Ndiaye to commit further into the future; while he’ll surely be a pivotal player for Everton next season, without a new contract, there will always be a bit of uncertainty regarding how long he’ll stay.
