Rising young Dutch star could be a major coup option at right back

Everton have a clear need at the position, and could look into a choice that could lock down the position for years to come.

To say that Everton have been looking for a long-term right back for a while would be wildly underselling the situation. The need has been clear for years, with little done to solve it outside of a swing for Nathan Patterson from Rangers back in January 2022 by a certain manager who shall not be named here.

Patterson hasn't worked out due to injuries and just not being a great fit for the position, and the Toffees are roughly in the same spot they've been in since before his arrival.

We recently looked at some players that Everton could bring in to cover the position, but there's another player who might be worth a look: Feyenoord's Givairo Read.

The 19-year-old Netherlands youth international is on the radar of a lot of big clubs, including Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Manchester City, and Arsenal, and Feyenoord is in a good position at the moment, considering he just extended his contract until June 2029.

With a reported value between €25-35 million, any club that brings him in will have to pay the Dutch side a rather hefty sum. But at his age, the likelihood that he'll be able to make his mark at a club for many years to come remains high. If not that, he'll most certainly allow whichever club earns the right to his signature a nice profit when he's sold down the line.

Of those clubs with interest, Manchester City likely offer Read the best option to play immediately, as many of the others have incumbant right backs or multiple options currently filling the position.

But that's what makes Everton so interesting.

The need is very clearly there, as the Blues don't have a starter for Read to supplant. If he could earn the trust of David Moyes, which has proven to be more difficult for some youngsters coming in than others, there's little reason to believe that Read couldn't step into the side without anyone else to take the spot.

He'd bring something entirely new to the Everton squad, given his impressive athleticism, exceptional pace, and ability to get forward and make things happen on offense while staying solid defensively.

Imagine Read opposite Adam Aznou. They're both young and pacey modern fullbacks, although the Moroccan has yet to untap his full potential as an offensive weapon. It would be a new brand of football for Everton.

While this doesn't feel likely and there no are direct links between the club and player, Givairo Read is the type of full back that Everton need to have an eye on for this transfer window.
