So far this summer, Everton have turned Carlos Alcarez's loan into a permanent signing, added a new striker in Theirno Barry, and brought in a reserve goalkeeper, but there are certainly a lot more players needed before the new Premier League campaign begins.
As usual, the Toffees have been constantly linked with an ever-growing number of players as the search for reinforcements continues during the summer.
One area of the team that David Moyes is keen to strengthen (among many others) is his midfield and engine room.
Although player-of-the-season Idrissa Gueye signed a new deal, Everton let Abdoulaye Doucoure leave at the end of June, and need to add another midfielder who can provide experience and defensive cover, and hopefully add a goal threat too.
One name that has previously cropped up in media transfer gossip is West Ham United's Czech international midfielder Tomas Soucek.
Although a key player for the Hammers in recent seasons, Soucek seems unsettled at the London Stadium under new manager Graham Potter and has a very good relationship with Moyes, the man who first brought him to English football.
The 30-year-old looks on paper to fit the bill and could be an ideal replacement for Doucoure. The Czech star scored nine times in the Premier League last season and is a strong defensive player too.
This combination would indicate that he is an excellent all-round central midfielder and quite possibly the right player to bring in and replace Doucoure.
There are, of course, plenty of other names being bandied about with Leicester's Wilfred Ndidi, Juventus and ex-Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz, and former Chelsea youngster Connor Gallagher also allegedly on the Blues’ radar.
Once again, though, as with so many other potential transfer targets, Everton need to identify who is their priority and get moving as quickly as possible to avoid being outmaneuvered by rival clubs.
After an understandably low-key and fairly inconclusive start to pre-season with the 1-1 draw at League Two side Accrington Stanley, the Toffees are next taking on Blackburn Rovers, and then travel to the US for a series of games there as their preseason ramps up.
We all have to hope that by that stage Everton will have a few more names added to the squad, giving them time to bed in and get ready for a hugely significant and historic new 2025-26 campaign.
