Everton will try to turn around their recent misfortunes with an away game against Newcastle.
Here are three things that the Toffees could do in order to be successful in this tough matchup.
1. Control the pace in midfield
The Toffees have struggled recently defining their playing style, and against Newcastle United, it’ll be no easy feat to do so.
James Garner and Idrissa Gana Gueye will need to step up in the double pivot and be more expansive with their passing. Perhaps, Merlin Rohl could slot into the starting lineup and offer a different physical profile.
2. Experiment with Nathan Patterson again
Patterson was given a good run of games in the past month, but David Moyes has opted to once again slot him on the bench.
Everton are lacking some dynamism in the front line with Jack Grealish out, so opting for a more offensive full back on the right side like Patterson could provide the Toffees with another option when attacking.
Now, whether Patterson fits into the starting lineup depends on if the winger used on the right side wants to cut inside into the right-half space
3. Give Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall more opportunities
An argument can be made that the most impactful player for the Toffees this season aside from Jack Grealish, who is out with a foot injury, has been KDH.
The dynamic attacking midfielder has found it difficult to put himself into the attacking positions that he did back when Grealish was available.
It’ll be up to both KDH and the wingers available to let him run rampant and connect the midfield and attack in the way that he usually does.
