Everton reportedly have their eye on Sheffield United midfielder Gustavo Hamer, according to Alex Crook of TalkSport.
The Brazilian-born Dutch international spent the last two seasons at Sheffield, first in their relegation-bound 2023/24 Premier League campaign and most recently as part of the squad that just missed a return to the top flight with a loss to Sunderland in the Championship playoff final.
Hamer has been a stalwart for the Blades over those two years, amassing 81 appearances (72 starts) and over 6000 minutes across all competitions. Before that, he spent four years in the Championship with Coventry, where he featured in 129 matches (118 starts) with nearly 10,000 minutes.
To be frank, Hamer has been a goal creating machine during his career, including 28 goal contributions (spread equally between goals and assists) while at Sheffield (including a solid 4g/6a year in the top flight), and 42 goal contributions at Coventry, all of which outperformed expectations.
He's also shown himself to be a fairly versatile player, spending time on both wings (although he favors the left side), in the central midfield, and even as a center forward last season with the Blades.
With Everton eyeing to add to their striking depth in other ways, I doubt Hamer would be asked to cover that many roles, but as someone who could step in and fill a multifaceted role similar to what was asked of someone like Abdoulaye Doucouré, it's possible that Hamer would be quite useful.
Crook noted that Leeds United, the winners of the Championship from this past season, also have their eye on Hamer, who will turn 28 in June. Transfermrkt lists the player's value at roughly €16 million, something both clubs could be keen to spend on an impact player with proven Premier League experience.
There certainly will be many incomings for Everton this summer and Hamer could be one that requires a quick and decisive move.
