Transfer rumors are almost always just that, although there are plenty of so-called news outlets discussing their exclusive sources and the like. That doesn't mean that all the information is false, just that the information has to be taken with a grain of salt.

That said, this particular rumor has a hint of nostalgia to it, making it worth exploring here.

GiveMeSport is reporting that Everton are interested in buying back former talisman Richarlison from Spurs, a player they sold because of PSR restrictions in July 2022.

The 27-year-old (he'll be 28 in a few weeks) Brazilian got off to a decent start upon his move to London, featuring in 35 matches across all competitions and bagging three goals and four assists. But he was not a regular starter, logging just over 1000 minutes in those appearances.

The following season saw fewer appearances (31) but more minutes (1492) and an impressive 11 goals and four assists in that limited playing time, but a good run of form and starts from December to February was interrupted by a knee injury that hampered most of the remainder of the campaign.

This season has been his worst in a Tottenham shirt, as he's appeared in just 18 matches (7 starts) and logged less than 700 minutes in all those matches. His goal contribution output is still solid given those limitations (5 goals, one assist), but knocks to his hamstring and calf have held him back.

And that is the key element to keep in mind with Richarlison.

When he's played, he's still shown himself to be an excellent player; the issue is that he's missed so many opportunities to play (32 games this season alone).

GiveMeSport suggests that the "Toffees could make a cut-price bid in the region of £30million," but even that much money feels like a lot if he can't be counted on to stay on the pitch.

Clearly, Richarlison is a massive part of Everton history for the part he played in the relegation battle under Frank Lampard, but nostalgia can't be the driving force here.

If Spurs were willing to loan him out then that's a move that would make sense. But it feels like spending big money on Richie at this point isn't the best way to improve the attack simply because of the injury concerns.
