It has been a rather long and drawn-out process, but Paddy Boyland of The Athletic is reporting that Tyler Dibling is set to have his medical on Monday, which would allow him to be announced as an Everton player early this week.
This would mean that Dibling would be registered in time to make his Everton debut on Saturday away to Wolves, before the league takes a few weeks off for an international break. So while the young winger likely won't be available for Mansfield Town's Carabao Cup tie at Hill Dickinson on Wednesday, getting him in the door early will be beneficial for both sides.
The expectation would be that Dibling has been training with Southampton and so he should be relatively match fit. The job will be to get him up to speed with what David Moyes would ask of him so that he can play on Saturday.
The likeliest outcome is that Dibling starts the match on the bench, but gets a cameo in order to get his legs under him before the break, so that he can hit the ground running once the squad comes back together to prepare for Aston Villa's trip to Hill Dickinson on September 13.
After a fairly successful attacking afternoon against Brighton on Sunday, there will be plenty of curiosity about how Dibling fits into this group, but this seems like a good problem for Everton to finally have.
The hope is that Dibling, along with a few more signings coming in as the transfer window comes to a close, will allow Everton to finally have some depth in the squad. Gone, hopefully, are the days of using two goalkeepers to fill out the bench for matchdays.
Hopefully, more news to come on Tyler Dibling joining Everton in the coming days.
